William5 (William4, Daniel3, John2, Michael1) was born in Dedham, June 24, 1716; married Nov. 17, 1737, in Dedham, Abigail Dean. He died may 21, 1761. His widow married Oct. 20, 1763, George Talbot of Stoughton. William in his will made full and particular provision for each one of his family. He gave his wife the improvement of his estate until his son William became twenty-one years of age, and as he had already given William one-half his real estate he gave her the improvement of William's property until Abner became of age. After that she was to have her thirds, one part out of William's portion and two parts out of Abner's. If she married again she was to quit the estate and to have the household stuff she brought with her made good to her, and Abner was to pay her yearly for the period of ten years the sum of £1 6s 8d. such an amount as would make with what they already had the sum of £66 13s 4d. In the case of Abigail part was to be paid at his wife's decease and the balance by William two years ofter he become twenty-one years of age. In the case of Sarah and Hannah part of theirs was to be paid when they became twenty-one and then yearly instalments until they had had two-thirds of the amount and the balance at his wife's decease. Similar provisions were made for Abner to pay to Anna and Mercy. He divided his property between William and Abner, to be delivered to them when they became twenty-one years of age. John, he said, would evendently not be capable of managing for himself so he provided that the estate whould maintain him. He also made provision for division of his estate, if either of his sons died without leaving any heirs, and also provicdd for John if he became able to manage for himself. His estate was valued at £1103 18s. Of this amount the real estate was valued at £988. In the division made in 1762, Abner received that part of the homestead that contained the house and barn. William Bacon was a captain in Col. Gridley's Regiment, and marched on the Crown Point expedition in October, 1756, and was in service for 44 weeks. Feb. 6, 1746, he and his wife were received into full communion with the South Church. In the winter of 1756-7 he taught school in the South precinct of Dedham, and also in the winter of 1759-60.
