    264. Joseph5 (John4, John3, John2, Michael1) was born in Dedham probably in 1747, as when his guardian was appointed on Nov. 28, 1749, he was said to be about three years old. He married Dec. 3, 1767, in Sherborn, Abigail Cole of Medfield. His occupation was that of housewright. In 1772 he sold to his brother Oliver the land he had acquired from his father's estate. He at first went to Sherborn to live, but only remained a short time and then went to Winchendon. He served as ensign in Capt. Henry Lealand's Company, Col. John Bullard's Regiment, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, and was in service for eleven days. He was also captain of the Ninth, Sherborn, Company of the Fifth Middlesex Regiment, commissioned Mar. 27, 1775. In 1774 we find that Capt. Joseph Bacon was on the committee in Winchendon to see that the school money ws properly laid out, and in 1781 on the committee to see to the building of schoolhouses. The town was divided into districts and he was in the Gardner section. He lived on the north side of Crystal Lake and was a farmer, as well as a carpenter. The town of Garnder was set off in 1785. He served as selectman in 1786; also as town clerk from 1787 to 1793 both inclusive; and was assessor

in 1788, 1789, 1790 and 1791. He died Nov. 27, 1808. His wife died Dec. 4, 1806, aged 58 years 3 months and 16 days.

    265. Michael5 (Michael4, John3, John2, Michael1) was born in Dedham, July 25, 1722; married May 23, 1751, in Needham, Mary Mills, daughter of William and Mary Mills of Needham. He married second, Dec. 1, 1763, Sarah Gay of Needham. Michael Bacon served as private in Capt. Daniel Whiting's company, Col. Jonathan Brewer's Regiment, enlisting June 15, 1775, and serving for one month and nineteen days. His name also appears on an order for a bounty coat or its equivalent in money, dated Prospect Hill, Dec. 22, 1775. He enlisted Jan. 30, 1776, in Capt. Hopestill Hall's Company, Col. Lemuel Robinson's Regiment, and was in service twenty-two days.
    Sarah Bacon of Needham and Ralph Day of Dedham were appointed administrators of his estate Feb. 27, 1778. His estate was valued at £779 5s 10d. Of this the following was the real estate:

    His widow married Dec. 9, 1779, William Badlam of Sherborn. She died Nov. 27, 1811, aged ninety-five years. William Bedlam died April 24, 1804.

    266. Ephraim5 (Michael4, John3, John2, Michael1) was born in Dedham, Nov. 30, 1724; married in Boston, July 10, 1753, Rebecca Reynolds. In 1753 he received from his father sixty-five acres of upland and swamp in Dedham. This he sold to William Bacon of Dover in 1784. In 1785 William sold it to Hezekiah Broad, describing it as sixty acres in Dover with two dwelling houses, barn and a mill house, now improved by Ephraim Bacon.

    267. Josiah5 (Michael4, John3, John2, Michael1) was born in Dedham, Jan. 6, 1730; married Nov. 27, 1755, Abigail Smith of Needham. Josiah lived on that part of his father's farm which was the original homestead.

    He served as private at Lexington and was absent twelve days. He served at Dorchester Heights in 1776. In 1778 he took part in the Rhode Island expedition and did guard duty in Roxbury in the same year.

    268. William5 (Michael4, John3, John2, Michael1) was born in Dedham, Sept. 24, 1735; married in Natick, Feb. 15, 1759, Elizabeth Hawes. In 1761 he received from his father a deed of several parcels of land, one of them being of thirty-five acres near his dwelling house. The dwelling house was shortly after deeded to his brother Josiah.

    269. Isaac5 (Isasc4, Daniel3, John2, Michael1) was born Nov. 21, 1711; married in Pomfret, Conn., Aug. 3, 1749, Isabel Hicks. An Isaac Bacon died in Pomfret July 3, 1754. This may have been his father.
